MET-based estimates are a useful ballpark — actual burn varies with intensity, fitness level and individual metabolism.

What a MET value is

A MET (Metabolic Equivalent of Task) compares an activity's energy cost to resting — 1 MET is roughly your resting metabolic rate, and running at 9.8 METs burns about 9.8 times that.

Why bodyweight matters

Heavier bodies burn more calories doing the same activity, since more energy is needed to move more mass — this calculator scales the MET value by your weight.

Using this for weight goals

This is a good rough guide for how much extra activity contributes to your day, but don't rely on it precisely to 'earn back' food — total daily energy balance matters more than any single session.

The formula

# MET formula
Calories/min = (MET × weight(kg) × 3.5) / 200

Total calories = calories/min × duration(minutes)

Common questions

They're a reasonable ballpark, generally within 10-20% of more precise measurements, but exact intensity, terrain and individual fitness all shift the real number.

Bodyweight is the biggest factor MET calculations account for, but individual differences in fitness, technique and effort also affect the real energy cost.

No — this is the additional calories burned specifically from the activity, on top of what you'd burn anyway at rest during that time.
